Uni Unlocked, part of Discover, is an exciting and fun opportunity for students who might not think university is for them, to think again. Make sure they don’t miss out on what could be a life changing opportunity.

3 Days, 2 Nights, 1 Awesome Adventure…

…and it’s all totally free – even the transport to campus.

We’ve set up the most amazing three days for your students, handpicking a team of staff and student ambassadors to look after them throughout. They’ll get to explore everything our accessible, modern campus has to offer, and stay in their own student flat with other Year 10s from across Norfolk and North Suffolk. Our packed timetable includes sport club and society taster sessions, introductory sessions to different university subjects, and the chance to learn about placement years and wellbeing on campus. There’ll also be plenty of time for them to socialise and experience what life on campus is really like with disco nights, movies, karaoke, and even a mini freshers fair!

Who can apply?

Students need to apply for places themselves, so we need your help to spread the word. There are no academic requirements, but there are eligibility criteria.

Uni Unlocked is for those students who may not be considering Higher Education as a viable option for them. This is their opportunity to see what’s possible.

Those who would benefit the most may have limited experience of Higher Education, may be in receipt of free school meals, have had a disrupted educational journey, or just need some guidance to help them consider their future choices a bit more.

Eligibility criteria include:

Currently or previously have been eligible for free school meals
Be from an identified underrepresented ethnicity group
Have a registered disability
Are a young carer
Are care experienced
Are estranged

How do my students apply?

Students can find out more information about Uni Unlocked and apply online on our website. The form takes just minutes to fill in, and we do the rest.

We’ve also included an extensive list of FAQs to answer any questions or concerns they may have. If you’ve got more questions, you can contact our team and we’ll get back with the answers you’re looking for.

Information for students

Students can apply if:

They’re currently in Year 10
Attend a state school
Live in Norfolk or have an NR postcode, and attend one of our partner schools

And meet one of the below criteria:

Are currently or previously have been eligible for free school meals
Be one of the following ethnicities:
- Arab
- Asian or Asian British – Bangladeshi
- Asian or Asian British – Pakistani
- Black or Black British – African
- Black or Black British – Caribbean
- Chinese
- Gypsy or Traveller
- Irish Traveller
- Mixed – White and Asian
- Mixed – White and Black African
- Mixed – White and Black Caribbean
- Other Asian background
- Other Black background
- Other Mixed background
Have a disability as defined below:
- A social / communication impairment such as Aspergers syndrome / other ASD
- Blind or has a serious visual impairment uncorrected by glasses
- Deaf or has a serious hearing impairment
- Long standing illness or health condition such as cancer, HIV, diabetes, chronic heart disease, or epilepsy
- A mental health condition, such as depression, schizophrenia, or anxiety disorder
- A specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, or AD(H)D
- A physical impairment or mobility issues, such as difficulty using arms, or using a wheelchair or crutches
- A disability, impairment, or medical condition that is not listed above
Are a young carer
- This means that you look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem
Are care experienced
- Being care experienced means you will have spent time living with foster carers under local authority care, in residential care (e.g. a children’s home), looked after at home under a supervision order, or in kinship care with relatives or friends, either officially (e.g. a special guardianship order) or informally without local authority support
Are estranged
- An estranged person is someone who no longer has the support of their parents, and often also other family members, due to a permanent breakdown in their relationship which has led to ceased contact. This might mean your biological, step or adoptive parents, or wider family members who have been responsible for supporting you in the past.
