Engineering Insight

Do you have students interested in studying Engineering, but they aren’t currently studying the subjects traditionally required to pursue an Engineering degree? Engineering Insight, part of Explore, is an on-campus event, for current Year 13/L3 Y2 students. They’ll discover different areas of engineering through problem-based team design challenges using our state-of-the-art facilities. Three days of learning about university life and our Engineering foundation course, which gives those without the typical entry requirements a route into studying Engineering at university.

What happens during the 3 days?

Engineering Insight is an interactive, hands-on experience, giving students the opportunity to use our state-of-the-art Engineering Labs in Productivity East, our regional hub for Engineering. Students will work in small teams to solve real world Engineering problems by applying their skills and knowledge. Students will use specialised equipment that they may not have come across at school or college and will be accompanied by current UEA Engineering students who will help guide them throughout the 3 days, giving them exposure to real-life role models.

Engineering academics will deliver mini-lectures and teaching sessions to give students the chance to fill in gaps in their knowledge, experience how Engineering is taught at university, and allow students the chance to get to grips with the facilities in Productivity East.

When does the event take place?

Tuesday 29 October – Thursday 31 October 2024

Each day starts at 9.30am and finishes at 4.30pm

Why should students sign up?

Students will leave feeling more confident in making an informed decision about whether studying Engineering at university is a path for them, and to have better knowledge about the types of Engineering courses available at university, including the foundation course.

Throughout the 3 days, students will:

• Explore different disciplines of Engineering
• Learn to use state-of-the-art equipment
• Cover a broad range of Engineering topics such as: CAD, additive manufacturing, subtractive manufacturing, control systems, showcasing research and design
• Meet like-minded individuals
• Meet current UEA Engineering students
• Opportunities to build skills: communication, teamwork and presentation skills
